Extending collaboration between the two giants, Samsung Galaxy Nexus combines the latest and (hopefully) finest technologies from both companies. Galaxy is the latest premium smartphone device lineup from Samsung and Android 4.0, the latest release of Google’s smartphone operating system.
At the first glance, the case it quite nice but looks and feels a bit plastic. The speaker located right under the real lop just behind the back panel make it feels a bit heavy at the back. With a glass panel that extends to the edge, the huge 4.65″ screen that occupy the whole front face is quite attractive. When the screen is off, it is hard to identify the actual edge of the screen panel. On the curved right and left panels sit simple buttons for power and volume along with headphone jack and micro-USB slot at the bottom panel.
In general Samsung Galaxy Nexus is a solid phone with classy design that fits perfectly in our hand, however it does not have an extraordinary feel like iPhone 4s. Just like other types in Samsung’s Galaxy premium lineup, screen is one of the most appealing aspect. Its extraordinary sharpness, color reproduction, and clarity liven up the gorgeous interface of the new Android.
Slick and stylish are the most appropriate words to express the impression of the new Android interface that dominated with silver and electric blue colors on the keyboard which has smaller yet more accurate keys. Opening main applications like email by Gmail and calendar will introduce you to the new elegantly minimalist Ice Cream Sandwich interface. Galaxy screen quality brought the interface even further up where icons rendered in more detailed and look really pop, even a bit floating against the Live Wallpapers.
On top of better arranged unlocking method with cool sound effect, Nexus features integrated multitasking capability. All of open apps can be accessed through a dedicated touch button. Additionally you can put up to five favorite apps on the dock.
Whilst you can download any browsers as you like, the standard bundled browser is fast both in WiFi and 3G networks and thanks to the brilliant Galaxy screen technology, website text is very sharp. The browsers also emulate most of computer’s browser capability like multi-tab and bookmarking mechanism.
The camera is one of its weaker part. Though taking pictures with the smart-phone to be uploaded to social media sites do not require that much of megapixels, most of its competitors carry 8 megapixels camera instead of 5. A bit compensating its megapixel drawback, it has a well functioning panoramic stitching tool. Offering full 1080p HD format, video camera is at the same par as competitions. Other shortcomings include integrated social media conversation and its speech recognition system that is not as good as iPhone’s Siri.
